Recycling requirements have changed due to stricter environmental regulations. Carts designated for recycling must be re-routed to a special sorting facility when contaminated with items that cannot be recycled. This special handling increases the cost of processing recyclables because it requires hand-sorting.
When the cart lid does not close completely, garbage can blow out. This garbage can scatter, clog storm drains, pollute water runoff and enter local waterways, including the Delta. “Recycle Right” and keep Stockton clean and green.
