Will recycle washers and dryers, water heaters and stoves. Will recycle refrigerators if Freon and compressor are removed. Will recycle air conditioners if Freon is removed.
NOTE: Refrigeration Certification Evacuation tags are required from a licensed appliance repair service providers before recycling refrigerators as scrap metal.
Avoid Removing It Yourself
Mishandling a heavy appliance can lead to physical harm. Hire a properly trained individual to remove a refrigerator if you lack the experience.
Never Dump Illegally
Refrigerators and other large appliances contain hazardous components such as freon, oil, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury. Never dump these items because they leach hazardous chemicals into the environment.
Find a RAD Partner to Dispose
The EPA’s Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) partners are certified to accept freon-containing appliances such as refrigerators. Find a RAD partner program through the EPA’s website or check out this list of California certified appliance recyclers.

PG&E is a utility company that offers an online rebate finder tool for large appliances. They help you find energy-saving products by comparing models, many of which have mail-in rebates.

Best Buy Recycling Program
Best Buy will haul away large appliances when you purchase a qualifying replacement product that’s delivered by Geek Squad® or Best Buy Home Delivery (fees apply). Additional major appliances or TVs can be hauled away for a fee.

Home Depot Rebate Center
You can find what local rebates are available for different appliances by searching Home Depot’s Rebate Center. Home Depot offers delivery and removal of large appliances. This service is free after spending $396 or more on one of their large appliances.

Sears Appliances Rebate Center
Sears hauls away and disposes of refrigerators, freezers, AC units and dehumidifiers when customers purchase energy efficient products. Search for appliance rebates at Sears.
